The railroad carries 60-plus freight trains and ten passenger trains daily. Its mission is to develop the unique North Carolina Railroad assets for the good of the people of North Carolina.

NCRR is the state’s oldest corporation but remains at the forefront of rail improvements and partnership development to promote jobs and rail-served industry across the state.  NCRR strives to improve our state by enabling freight to grow business, expanding rail to move people, and investing in North Carolina.

Freight service on the North Carolina Railroad line is operated by Norfolk Southern Railway under an exclusive trackage rights agreement.
